“It’s a huge honour and responsibility,” said Regé-Jean on what it means to be part of such a historically and emotionally rich show. “It’s a strong and astonishing story, all the characters kept their three-dimensional aspects. It’s not a story about suffering and slaves - but rather about extraordinary people who survived,” said Regé-Jean.
Chatting about his character, Chicken George, Regé-Jean said: “George has had incredibly difficult circumstances, he’s very ambitious despite being brought down. He feels he has no limits.”
“I share the ambition and curiosity with Chicken George,” said Regé-Jean, “and also not wanting to be defined.”
If he could meet Chicken George, Regé-Jean said he would advise to listen to his mother more. “I think I’d give everyone that advice!” he continued.
On playing alongside such big industry names Regé-Jean said: “It was extraordinary and the standards were so high which makes everything very special. Every single member on set was personally invested to make this story incredible for the fans back home.”
