Anoxolo Zotho, 20; Phumelele Roro, 19; Sandiswa Eland, 19 and Nqobile Eland, 21. It was a family affair for these cousins from Khayelitsha. Anoxolo and Nqobile decided to take up the challenge from their family to audition for the first time. “We have been singing for a long time; it’s a natural talent. Our family have encouraged us to come through and take a chance,” said Nqobile.
Elize Juries, 24, and Andries Moopeloa, 26. Both work in an army base in Oudtshoorn. They were the first people to arrive in the queue on Friday morning – a full 24 hours before the auditions kicked off. “We wanted to audition so badly and didn’t want to miss anything,” they said, adding that this was their first time trying out.
Cresswill Levendal, 29, from Worcester was coming in for the third time. The first two times he made it as far as Director’s Cut. “I’m always picked out in the crowd before I audition, and I’m starting to think that it’s a jinx,” he complained. But he feels positive that the third time will be a charm.
