Presenters of Cannonball

How do you test speed, accuracy, height and distance? With giant inflatable slides, gallons of water and a lot of laughter.

Are you ready?  The brand-new adrenaline-fuelled gameshow, Cannonball, premieres Thursday 1 March at 20:00 on ITV CHOICE (DStv Channel 123), and streaming live on DStv Now.

Hosted by legendary cricketer and broadcaster Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff, contestants of all ages face supersized games in a custom-built water park. In the final, they will launch themselves cannonball-style at a huge moving target covering the surface of a gigantic deep-water tank as they attempt to become the winner of the coveted Cannonball Cup.

Says Flintoff:

“What’s not to love about this show? Gallons of water and giant inflatable slides are the perfect recipe for some spectacular comedy moments. But also throw into the mix some truly incredible feats from the contestants.”

Reporting on all the poolside action are singer Frankie Bridge, presenters Radzi Chinyanganya and Maya Jama and comedian Ryan Hand.

Each week 24 contestants attempt four water-based challenges that will test their speed, accuracy, height and distance. The challengers will rotate around the Cannonball course as they battle to win each game, gaining medals for their achievement. In the final, the three people with the most medals go head to head.

This review in the UK’s Guardian newspaper:

“This is what ……. television should be about: finding imaginative ways of putting grandmothers, cabbies, students, PE teachers and a former Miss Bournemouth into the water, from the highest possible height, with the least amount of dignity and the biggest possible splash. (Contestants) are skimmed across the surface of the water like flat stones and launched down a gigantic, inflatable ski-jump slide. All for your entertainment. It’s certainly going down well in our house. My boys … think it’s the best thing. They want to go to Malta …. to have a go themselves. Even their mother …. manages a smile.”

Filming of the first series took place in Valetta, Malta in April 2017.
