Let's get you up to speed on Gqom before season two of Gqom Nation heads to MTV Base.

Fridays are going to be majorly lit! Yup, season 2 of Gqom Nation heads to your small screens from Friday 21 September at 18:05 on MTV Base and streaming online on DStv Now.

Still new to the Gqom scene? No worries, it's never too late to get just as hyped as us, South Africa and even the rest of the world have!

What is Gqom?

Originating from Durban, Gqom is a genre of deep house music. The sound is distinct with bass beat production. It gained much traction overseas starting in London.

Who is a part of the Gqom scene?

Many have jumped onto the scene, but we could say that Okmalumkoolkat, DJ Tira, DJ Bongz, Lord The Dj, Dj Noffoh, Dj Nkaa, Rudeboyz, Distruction Boyz, DJ Maphorisa and Babes Wodumo are some of the most notable within the genre. Thanks to Gqom, we can saying they're #GoingGlobal with the all the attention.

Has Gqom really gone international?

Yes, it has! Just recently we saw Korean boy group BTS (Bangtan Boys) release their new track called Idol that has some serious Gqom inspo threaded through - and the music video is equally giving us South African vibes. Oh, did we forget, there's even a version of the song with Nicki Minaj

Check out the music video below to see K-Pop meet Gqom:

Let's not forget our Gqom queen Babes Wodumo making it onto the Black Panther soundtrack! Who couldn't - and still can't - get enough of the song Redemption? This genre has definitely become one of the most fastest climbers in popularity and brought upon some incredible success for our homegrown artists.

Get into gear for season two of Gqom Nation from Friday 21 September at 18:05 on MTV Base and streaming online on DStv Now.
