Comedy Central brings you a new version of the popular fame show!

Hands up if you’re a fan of the cult hit game show Takeshi’s Castle. Good news, the show is back with Takeshi’s Castle Thailand starting on Wednesday 17 January at 21:00 on Comedy Central and streaming on DStv Now.

Join in from the safety of your home as 100 contestants battle it out through a gruelling obstacle course of crazy antics. One of South Africa’s best known faces and comedians, Rob van Vuuren, has been confirmed to provide the humorous commentary we all love over the episodes aired in Africa.

Watch the video below to see one of the challnges contestants will face:

The original

Can you believe it, Takeshi’s Castle originally aired from 1986 to around 1990? Yes, this is proof that if something is a hit it can stand the test of time – we love it still today! A revival episode to honour the Tokyo Broadcast System’s 50th anniversary aired in 2005 – TBS originally aired the show in Japan. The series wasn’t the first to attempt the slapstick comedy in game show, but it catapulted the genre into fame – admit it, we all know of the series!

A new audience

What could be described as Super Mario in reality, the show saw contestants go up against some of the craziest challenges which could have involved muddy areas to climbing jungle gyms and even sumo wrestling – as wide as your imagination can extend, chances are Takeshi’s Castle brought it to life.

Now, a new audience can enjoy the cult favourite with a new version of the series in the form of Takeshi’s Castle Thailand. Not a direct sequel to the original Japanese game show, but a new version to captivate a new generation of audience. From awe to shock, the experience of watching Takeshi’s Castle will be the same resulting in tons of laughter.

Adding Rob into the mix

Rob van Vuuren, a familiar and popular face at Comedy Central, has cemented himself as one of the most formidable names in the South African comedy scene. In addition to his comedian hat, Rob has grown across the South African entertainment industry by appearing on a number of TV programs including Crazy Games, SA’s Got Talent and The Most Amazing Show alongside featuring in films such as Straight Outta Benoni, Footskating 101 and Leon Schuster’s Shucks Tshabalala, Spud 2 and Jimmy in Pienk.

What did Rob have to say about the exciting news? “Takeshi’s Castle is an institution and I am stoked to be a part of this mad piece of pop-culture. I feel like I’ve been preparing myself for this voice job my whole life. I will throw every mad accent, crazy thought and silly sound into the mix to try and match the insanity that is Takeshi’s Castle. This has been an honour, I feel at home at Comedy Central, where the team provide me the freedom to expand both my creative talent and platforms.”
