Scream Queens and Empire, two of this season’s most anticipated dramas, will get a simultaneous global release.
FOX has announced that Scream Queens and Empire, two of this season’s most anticipated dramas, will get a simultaneous global release. Both Empire and Scream Queens will bow in all FOX International Channels (FIC) licensed markets within 24 hours of their domestic debut on FOX. Outside the US, Scream Queens is set to launch on Wednesday 23 September and Empire on Thursday 24 September.
FOX is available as a linear channel and non-linear offering in over 340 million homes across the US and virtually all international TV markets. FOX has long been the world’s most widely distributed premiere entertainment destination that audiences in the US and abroad turn to for ground-breaking, trend setting and critically acclaimed programming. The global day and date release model is a staple FOX roll-out strategy, that has successfully created global hits since the freshman season of The Walking Dead.
“Hollywood is waking up to how instrumental it is to harness the collective voices of outspoken international fans, especially for water-cooler shows like Empire and Scream Queens. We can’t wait to roll-out these incredibly exciting series to fans around the world. The viewers we serve every day are driving the success of a show in its premiere window and all the way through its lifecycle.” said Hernan Lopez, President and CEO of FIC.
Having taken audiences by storm in the US and aboard, Empire has created fans all over the world who can’t wait to get their Cookie back!
Starring Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard and Academy Award and Emmy Award nominee Taraji P Henson, and featuring music by prolific producers Timbaland, Jim Beanz and Ne-Yo, Empire is from Academy Award nominee Lee Daniels (Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Precious), Emmy Award winner Danny Strong (Game Change, Lee Daniels’ The Butler) and Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning producer Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind, 24).
Lucious Lyon (Howard) is the king of hip-hop. An immensely talented artist, the CEO of Empire Entertainment and a former street thug, his reign has been unchallenged for years. But, after battling what he believed to be a terminal disease, Lucious challenged his sons (Jussie Smollett as Jamal, Bryshere “Yazz” Gray as Hakeem and Trai Byers as Andre) to compete for his throne, a task made all the more complicated by the return of their mother and Lucious’ ex-wife, Cookie (Henson), who was released from prison.
Scream Queens is a new killer comedy-horror series from award-winning executive producers Ryan Murphy (Glee, American Horror Story), Brad Falchuk (Glee, American Horror Story) and Ian Brennan (Glee).
The over-the-top, biting satire, has an all-star cast, including Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis, Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominee Lea Michele (Glee), Academy Award nominee Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Zombieland, August: Osage County), Nasim Pedrad (Mulaney, Saturday Night Live), Oliver Hudson (Nashville, Rules of Engagement), Skyler Samuels (American Horror Story: Coven), Keke Palmer (Akeela and the Bee, Masters of Sex), newcomer Billie Lourd, Diego Boneta (Rock of Ages), Glen Powell (The Expendables 3), Lucien Laviscount (Episodes), Niecy Nash (Getting On, The Soul Man), pop superstar and actor Nick Jonas (Kingdom) and Grammy Award nominee and actress Ariana Grande.
