M-Net 101 has added the much talked about 30-year anniversary television special of Dirty Dancing to its schedule.

In recent times there has been a revival of 1980s hits on our television screens. Now, the channel that bought you Twin Peaks, McGyver and Lethal Weapon, M-Net 101, has added the much talked about 30-year anniversary television special of Dirty Dancing to its schedule.

Just days after its first US broadcast on Wednesday 24 May, M-Net will be screening the TV reboot of the cult movie Dirty Dancing in two parts of 90 minutes each. M-Net 101 will broadcast Part 1 on Friday 26 May at 19:30 and Part 2 on Friday 2 June at 19:30.

The ode to the 1987 movie features a sterling cast as well as all the favourite musical items from the original film; not to forget that iconic final ballroom scene in which Patrick Swayze lifted Jennifer Grey over his head to the sound of (I’ve had) The Time of My Life – probably one of the most memorable scenes in the history of cinema.

Stepping into the role of fresh-faced rich girl “Baby” Houseman, originally played by Grey, is Oscar-nominee Abigail Breslin, who enthralled audiences in Little Miss Sunshine. Her mother is portrayed by Debra Messing from Will and Grace, and the hunky working-class dance instructor who will sweep Baby off her feet is relative newcomer Colt Prattes. The film also stars Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek), Nicole Scherzinger (X Factor), Sarah Hyland (Modern Family), Tony Roberts (Law & Order), Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy) and Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars).

“M-Net is yet again at the forefront of television with this special two-part Dirty Dancing screening,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard. “There’s currently a big buzz around this celebratory television event, and it promises to be great entertainment for a Friday night in.”

To accommodate the screening of the Dirty Dancing special, MacGyver, who also came to life in the 1980s, will take a break on Friday 26 May and Friday 2 June.
