The Boxing Day Test will see South Africa battle it out with their neighbours, Zimbabwe in the first-ever day/night test match to be played in South Africa. So, prepare yourself for an action-packed four days of exciting cricket.

In order to get St George’s Park ready for the match, LED floodlights were installed for a hefty cost of R27 million.


A total of seven day/night Tests have been played. The first was on 27 November 2015 between Australia and New Zealand (won by the Aussies by three wickets).


The Proteas have only played one day/night Test. South Africa played Australia at the Adelaide Oval on 24 November 2016, the visitors lost the match by seven wickets.


The Australian Woman’s national team scored a first innings score of 448 declared against England. The match ended in a draw.


Word has it that the cricket match to be played under lights was a benefit match for former English cricketer Jack Young. The match was played at Highbury (better known as Arsenal Stadium) between Arsenal Football Club and the Middlesex County Cricket Club.
