VIA’s upcoming show Blitsbrein is set to be the Afrikaans quiz show of the year. Actor and social media sensation, Pietie Beyers will be hosting the programme starting Tuesday 1 May 2018 with new episodes on Tuesdays at 21:00 and repeats on Sundays at 21:00 on VIA (DStv channel 147) and streaming live on DStv Now

This nail-biting show will consist of 13 thrilling episodes.  Every contestant will be judged according to their reaction time per question as well as the amount of questions they answer correctly. Each episode will deliver one winner, who will move on to compete in following episode. The challenges become more and more complicated per episode.

We chatted to our new and exciting host on the show about what viewers can expect: On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your general knowledge?

I would give myself a well-deserved 7 out of 10. I am known for always keeping my ears open to new information.

Where do you think most people get their general knowledge?

I think that the internet greatly contributes to this factor. There are so many platforms that are easily accessible and easy to understand. The only issue that I have is the objectivity of some sources.

Which categories are the contestants going to struggle with?

I find historical and scientific topics to be quite daunting. I hope that the contestants sharpen their minds with regards to these kinds of topics.

What are you going to contribute to the programme?

My goal is to put the contestants at ease. It’s not easy thinking on your feet when there is so much external pressure. I think there should be a healthy and competitive level of excitement. I am here to ensure everyone enjoys him or herself and goes home with a positive experience.

Do you have any advice for our contestants?

There are two things I would focus on if I were to compete: It is essential to breathe and to have trust in your self-esteem. You will need to talk yourself into the ‘let’s go’ mode. You didn’t enter to lose and you didn’t get this far by not having a good sense of what’s going on in the world.

Which aspect of the production is going to challenge the contestants?

I believe the production will be filled with joy and laughter. Initially everyone will experience a sense of intimidation. The lights and the filming setup can be daunting at first.

Which aspect of the production excites you the most?

There are so many aspects that I find exhilarating! I’ve always wanted to host my very own game show. ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ was my favourite show growing up. It is an absolute dream come true to be part of a production like this.

Do you think that older contestants will have a natural advantage?

I don’t think so. Maybe generations ago but information is so widely available these days. Blitsbrein caters to everyone. There will be sections that some might find more daunting than others. This is the way of life! I think their levels of life exposure and experience will govern their success.

Which general knowledge topics do you find most challenging?

I struggle with topics that apply to royal families. I know the basics such as the story behind Queen Elizabeth but information regarding her children and grandchildren precedes me.
