Black Panther premiered in South Africa recently and DStv caught up with Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira to talk all things Black Panther.
Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o and co-star Danai Gurira were recently in South Africa for the Black Panther premiere and we had the opportunity to talk to them.
One thing they touched on and was reiterated with the rest of the cast is that representation is important and Black Panther affords children this opportunity as it “widens the sense of possibility in a child’s life.”
Watch as they also go in-depth about afrofturism and why it’s a powerful tool that plays a major role in Black Panther:
Danai said seeing a character like Shuri who is a “powerful marvel character” but also a “cool, hip girl and a genius” provides a “boundless imagination for an African child.”
Not only is Black Panther trending as the number one movie in the world, loads of celebs are joining the #BlackPantherchallenge which is buying underpriveleged people (namely children) tickets to see the movie. Chadwick who plays T'Challa aka Black Panther had this to say about it:
.@FredTJoseph helped raise over $500k so 38k+ kids could see @TheBlackPanther in theaters. Sending love and gratitude to everyone participating in the #BlackPantherChallenge. #TheRealMVPs 🙏🏾 pic.twitter.com/xiXRcd5gCm— Chadwick Boseman (@chadwickboseman) February 21, 2018
