The judges finally selected rapper P-Flo and DJ Jaysuu as the opening acts of the DStv iRock Rustenburg Music Festival and Pre-party.

Popular music industry experts Donald Moatshe, Mobi Dixon and Mafisa FM’s DJ Spicy Steve had the daunting task of selecting the DStv iRock Rustenburg 2016 Battle for the Stage winners from hundreds of talented entrants in the region. The judges finally selected rapper P-Flo and DJ Jaysuu as the opening acts of the DStv iRock Rustenburg Music Festival and Pre-party, respectively.

“This year’s DStv iRock Rustenburg Battle for the Stage competition was a huge success. The North West province is the birthplace of Motswako, so it’s no surprise that the talent was exceptional. Adding the celebrity judges was a huge drawcard for performers from the region; they continually encouraged upcoming musicians to enter the competition to show off their musical abilities; and it worked. We believe we selected the best rapper, DJ and singer from the entrants,” says Nomsa Chabeli Mazibuko, General Manager for Marketing at DStv.

Phemelo 'P-Flo' Matlhaba, a 23-year-old Motswako rapper from Mafikeng, was selected as the ultimate DStv iRock Battle for the Stage winner. P-Flo will be opening the DStv iRock Rustenburg Music Festival Main stage for Mdu Masilela, Babes Wodumo, Cassper Nyovest, Black Coffee and more on Saturday, 10 December 2016.

The DStv iRock Rustenburg Pre-party opening act, 22-year-old Prince Tebogo Letsholo, who performs under the stage name DJ Jaysuu was selected to open for Mobi Dixon at Reggies Cigar Lounge on Friday, 9 December. Born in Johannesburg and raised in Rustenburg, this Hip Hop DJ has been crafting his skill since the age of 10.

And for the first time ever, the judges have selected a wild card to perform at the DStv iRock Rustenburg Pre-party. Mpho Lenoke, AKA Larry Jackson, a Masters student in Economics from the North West University, will bring his unique singing style and Commercial House beats to the Pre-party stage right before DJ Jaysuu’s set.

Afro-soul sensation Donald Moatshe says: “We’ve had the amazing privilege of being part of this life-changing campaign. The sense of satisfaction I got from unearthing the talent in my hometown, is beyond comparison. I’m hoping to teach the Battle for the Stage winners the ins and outs of the music industry and establish a mutually beneficial relationship that will last for years to come.”

Popular DJ/Producer Mobi Dixon says: “We judged the competition entrants based on their vocal technique, lyrical content, song writing and stage presence. And for the DJs it's mixing, beat matching, song selection, sequence flow and stage presence. Jaysuu, the winner in this category had a great stage presence and connected well with the audience; while Hip Hop winner, P-Flo’s undeniable rhyme skeem, lyrical content and detailed performance made him stand out from the rest. I believe they’re ready for the big stage, including Larry Jackson whose charm on stage, vocal technique and projection scored him a place on the line-up.”

The winners each walk away with R10 000 cash; access to the DStv iRock VIP area at the main event, where they will rub shoulders with media, celebrities and other performers; an opportunity to be featured on V-Entertainment on Vuzu (DStv Channel 116); an interview on DStv.com and The Daily Sun Newspaper. On top of all that, they each win a mentorship from judges Mobi Dixon and Donald.

From one talent search to another, fresh off the Idols SA Season 12 stage, Top 10 contestants Thami Shobede; Keegan Martin; Lucia Jakeni; Valentine Mathe and Terra Cox will also visit Rustenburg as part of the DStv iRock weekend festivities. On Saturday, 10 December fans will get an opportunity to meet and take photos with these talented youngsters from the popular reality show.
