We’re bringing you some fun facts on famous world architecture before the premiere of Engineering an Empire.


Leaning Tower of Pisa

Built to accompany the public cathedral in the city, it took about two centuries to build the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Yes, nearly 200 years were dedicated in the constructions which would stop and start in waves during this time.


Great Wall of China

With a length spanning 21,196.18 km, the Great Wall of China is truly magnificent. Many quote a fact saying the Great Wall of China can be seen from space. This is not completely accurate – you would need assistance for the human eye to be able to view it from space.


The Colosseum

With its home in Rome, the famous Colosseum has over 80 entrances to the structure and can fit about 50 000 people in it. There are about 36 trap doors which added to the special effects of the Roman games.


Maya architecture

The beautiful pyramids, palaces, buildings and towers allowed for incredible inspiration from the Mayans with their incredible and detailed stone carvings. Some of these buildings rose to nearly 200 feet high!
