Notable moments

The 2017 AMAs still have us talking from certain A-listers being no-shows to huge performances and everything in between. Here are some of the biggest moments from the night.

Kelly and Pink team up

Kelly Clarkson and Pink teamed up for an emotional rendition of R.E.M’s Everybody Hurts after a sombre introduction by Jamie Foxx reflecting on the tragedies that took place in 2017. The two powerhouse vocalists had everyone moved by their performance.

BTS made everyone look

The South Korean boy group, BTS had everyone looking at their style and star presence. Having arrived in Los Angeles a week prior, BTS had their fandom (ARMY) in a frenzy as they went on a press tour. When it came to their AMAs performances, the boys brought the house down as everyone went into hysterics as they performed their latest single DNA. Even Ansel Elgort had to film their performance on his phone!

Demi slayed it

The AMAs delivered on some serious slayage when it came to performances. Just take a look at Demi Lovato’s Sorry Not Sorry number – she started her performance sitting in the crowd while real negative messages she’s received on social media appeared on the massive screens on stage. It was a clap back to all the haters showing she’s risen beyond all the drama and hate.

Whitney Houston’s tribute

The Bodyguard saw its 25th anniversary – the soundtrack is the best-selling of all time. Christina Aguilera performed a medley of songs from the iconic Whitney Houston. The mix of songs included I Will Always Love You, I Have Nothing and I'm Every Woman. All hail Christina and may Whitney’s legacy in music continue to live on.

Where are the women?

In what was a lingering topic throughout the build up to the AMAs, it was sad to notice the lack of female artists nominated. Out of a total of 28 categories, only a handful of women were nominated – and three categories were female specific. Due to this, you would have noticed an extra dose of effort to talk about girl power as it was evident that women were underrepresented. We’re hoping to see a change in next year’s nominations.

The lack of A-listers

We can’t even say that much about this except ask… where was everyone? Even Bruno Mars wasn’t around to accept his Artist of the Year award. We’re all about seeing new faces, but this was the perfect opportunity to see some of our favourites too. Some of us were hoping for a Taylor Swift spectacular from her new album Reputation.

Now that we’ve taken a look at some of the many moments, let’s see who took home an award on the night.
