In this crime thriller, Las Vegas cop Vincent Downs discovers his partner is crooked when he’s asked to steal 25kg of cocaine – street value $7 million. Typically, the drugs belong to a family – the Novaks - who will stop at nothing to get back at those who cross them. When they find out that Downs played a role in the theft, they abduct his son, Thomas, and threaten his life if the drugs aren’t returned.

Meanwhile, idealistic detective Jennifer Bryant has her eye on Downs after one of her recent busts went south. She learns about the caper and follows him to the casino – getting involved at just the wrong moment. Cue car chases, ambushes and enough double-crosses to keep viewers off guard before Downs makes a desperate attempt to save his son’s life

A remake of the French thriller Sleepless Night, Sleepless is an all-action film from Baran bo Odar, who directed 2010’s The Silence. Asked about working with Jamie Foxx, he said it was fun because he’s such a big entertainer – but also challenging to keep focused. “In the end, I really enjoyed it. There was one day we shot where it was a very long shooting day, and Jamie was so tired,” he said. “I could tell. We were shooting a shot where he’s in the car and he tries to escape the other car that’s chasing him. He was really tired because of the fighting and the stunts that he did all by himself. I was like, ‘Oh my God, we’re never going to get through this scene, because it’s already the 14th shooting hour, and we have to push that scene. Let’s try and see if we can do it’. He literally almost fell asleep at the wheel. Then, I yelled ‘action’ and then he was wide awake. That’s the greatness about Jamie. Once you yell “action,” he’s so focused and he’s in the role immediately. Then, I yelled ‘cut’ and he fell asleep again. I love that. He’s a great guy”.

Speaking about what drew her to the role of Bryant, Michelle Monaghan says she loves action films, but was particularly impressed with the character when she read the script. “This is a character that I don’t often get the opportunity to play - someone who’s very tough and determined and capable, and physical,” she says. “And so, when I read that great action scene, because it read so quickly and then it culminated in that, I was like, ‘Yes!’ And she was still so tough as nails all the way through that. I thought, ‘Okay, yes, this is what I want to do, and I want to do it with this guy’. So without a doubt, it was right up my alley”.

Fox concurred, saying Sleepless was a great chance to work with someone he respected, in Michelle. “We get a chance to do this tango, and then that fight scene was so much fun, you know, pulling that off was great. And so, that’s what you do, man, and then you get it out there and tell people, ‘Go check it out’.
