Gabrielle Union as Mary Jane Paul in Being Mary Jane on BET (DStv channel 129).

On DStv, we have an incredible line-up of talented women this August, and we’re doing a little happy dance that we get to invite them in to our living rooms and see their incredible work.

So clear your schedules, set your reminders and PVR and don’t miss any of the wonderful black girl magic moments from these award winning talents.

Lip Sync Battle
From Thursday 17 August, LL Cool J and his very colourful commentator Chrissy Teigen return for an electrifying third season of Lip Sync Battle.

On MTV Base (DStv 322) at 21:30, we know we’re in for a treat with outrageous costumes and once in lifetime performances from actors and comedians, sports stars and singers. We can’t wait to see the performances of these incredible women: Samira Wiley and Laverne Cox of Orange Is The New Black, Lupita Nyong'o, Regina Hall, Wanda Sykes and Zendaya.

Issa Rae in Insecure

From the moment we met Issa Dee, we’ve been hooked to Insecure. Mondays at 21:00 on Vuzu AMP (DStv channel 103) tune in for all of her awkward moments, and see how Issa deals with her breakup from Lawrence and how her friendship with Molly blossoms – we all have that one girlfriend who will always be there, regardless of disagreements.

And with all these real moments Issa faces, one other thing Insecure continues to guarantee us, is its great selection of music from some of our music faves including SZA, Cardi B and Jazmin Sullivan.

Gabrielle Union in Being Mary Jane

We all want Mary Jane Paul to find love (and keep it) and to be a successful news anchor, but the road to all of this has never been easy for her.

And she can be so frustrating at times! Yes, we’re still hurting – how could she do that to Lee? You’re right, we don’t trust Justin and we can’t wait for him to mess up to let Mary Jane know: “we told you so!”

Be sure to tune in to BET (DStv channel 129) every Monday at 21:30 and follow all the drama with Mary Jane in Being Mary Jane.

Queen Sugar

The Bordelon siblings return to Vuzu AMP (DStv 103) on Tuesday 29 August at 21:00 for an exhilarating new season of Queen Sugar.

Siblings Charley, Nova and Ralph Angel continue to find their way and work together to make a success of their father’s legacy.

Not only is each episode directed by a female director, but this show (which we can’t get enough of), is executive produced by Oprah Winfrey and Selma director Ava DuVernay.

Lupita Nyong’o in Queen of Katwe

Based on a true story and set in the biggest slum in Uganda, Queen of Katwe tells the story of Phiona Mutesi (played by Madina Nalwanga) who becomes a chess prodigy, with the support and help of her chess teacher Robert Katende, portrayed by David Oyelowo.

Also starring Academy Award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o as Phiona's mother Nakku Harriet, Queen of Katwe is a story about love and support, and overcoming the odds, in the most extreme of circumstances.

Tune in to M-Net Movies Premiere (DStv 104) on Sunday 27 August at 20:30 for this beautiful story, directed by Mira Nair.

Black Girls Rock!

Once a year, BET comes out to celebrate and honour black girls who rock!

From singers and educators to politicians and actresses, BET shines the light on those who are doing wonderful things.

This year Taraji P. Henson is hosting the star-studded show that will celebrate and honour Insecure's Issa Rae with the Star Power Award. Two other honourees we’re excited for are Roberta Flack and Black-ish actress Yara Shahidi.

Celebrate these incredible women and more, when Black Girls Rock! premieres on Thursday 24 August at 20:00 on BET (DStv channel 129).

Stay connected to DStv and enjoy all of this great entertainment and more.
