Kenyans treated to exclusive pre-release screening of Disney Junior’s brand new animated special ‘The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar’

Multichoice Kenya through its DStv brand and in association with The Walt Disney Company Africa, gave their subscribers a rare treat as they hosted an exclusive pre-release screening of Disney Junior’s brand new animated special The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar.

The animation special will premiere on Disney Junior (Channel 309) on Saturday 26 March at 10:00 with the highly anticipated animation series The Lion Guard airing on the channel every weekday at 18:30 from Monday 18 April.

Multichoice Kenya GM, Walingo Chiruyi assured the subscribers in attendance that Multichoice is committed to maintaining the existing partnership Disney Junior to ensure that subscribers continue to enjoy the exciting content and experiences such as this. He thanked The Walt Disney Company for choosing to do the pre-launch in Kenya to provide its young audiences and families with unforgettable interactions with the premium content they see on DStv. “This is a welcome move by Disney Junior and we hope to see more of these pre screenings extended to other Disney channels on our platforms,” he added.

The hundreds of children in attendance were also treated to a wide range of entertainment activities including treasure hunt games at Bunga’s Hyena Lair Dare, an activity station with coloring sheets and puzzles for children, photo sessions at an exciting Lion Guard photo booth area amongst others. A jungle-effect complete with acacia trees was created for fun and play for the children including getting a chance to practice how loud they can roar.

“Being able to partner with Multichoice to bring our content to life in this unique way really adds another dimension to The Lion Guard that not only entertains but also incorporates conservation, family and community and diversity,” said Christine Service, Senior Vice President and Country Manager of The Walt Disney Company Africa. "The story of The Lion King has deeply touched families on the continent since its original theatrical release 20 years ago and with this new series, we look forward to introducing a whole new generation of kids to both the Disney legacy characters and to new friends and heroes.”

The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar introduces viewers to Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, who assumed the role of leader of the Lion Guard, a group of the bravest and brightest tasked with preserving the Pride Lands. Instead of assembling a team of young lions to serve with him, Kion challenged tradition by calling upon friends he believes are the best choices – Bunga, a fearless honey badger; Fuli, a confident cheetah; Beshte, a happy-go-lucky hippo; and Ono, an intellectual egret. Stories will include special appearances by Mufasa, Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki, Zazu and Kion's older sister, Kiara, the future Queen of the Pride Lands.

The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar will roar onto Disney Junior (Channel 309) on Saturday 26 March at 10:00 with The Lion Guard launching every week day at 18:30 from Monday 18 April.
