Mathare United striker and top scorer Obadiag Ndege reveals why he enjoys playing for the team under coach Kimanzi
At face value, Obadiah Ndege is just like any young footballer in the SportPesa Premier League – overly optimistic and hungry for the title. But if you dig deeper, you’ll realise he has just a bit more passion, too calculating in his approach than he cares to admit. He’s after all, the top scorer at Mathare United and second in the league with five goals. And seeing how he owns his role, this number can only go up as the season continues.
When it comes to his best skills, this striker points out that if there was an assist as good as Ozil at Mathare, he’d be perfect at his finishing game. But even with the Ozil reference, don’t get confused, he is no Arsenal fan. Manchester United has always been his team.
Being a former AFC Leopards player, Obadiah compares his former team and Mathare United, revealing why he prefers his current team.
He explains why he’d rather roll with the Slum Boys than with Ingwe. “Francis Kimanzi is the most amazing coach that I have ever sat under. He’s very fatherly and very clear in his instructions.”
Catch Obadiah in action when top-placed Mathare United takes on second-placed Tusker in Machakos, on SuperSport on Thursday 28 April at 16:15.
