AFC Leopards SC midfielder Bernard Mang’oli is the July Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Fans' Player of the Month.
The former JMJ Academy midfielder got 53% of the 10,102 votes cast on soka.co.ke to beat on-form Tusker FC forward Jesse Were, Mathare United’s Noah Abich, KCB FC forward Chrispinus Onyango and Muhoroni’s Wyclife Ochomo to win the award that comes with a personalised trophy and Ksh 10 000 cash reward.
Catch Mang'oli in action as AFC Leopards tackles Ulinzi Stars on Wednesday, 12 August at 17:30 on SuperSport (SS9E).
The soft-spoken player thanked the fans for voting for him and promised to work even harder to ensure his club does well in its upcoming fixtures.
“It feels great to have won this award. The fact that I beat very worth opponents to win it makes it even better,” Mang’oli said after receiving the award.
“I want to thank all the local football fans that voted for me and I promised to work harder now to ensure my club, AFC Leopards, does well,” he added.
Ingwe lost by a solitary goal to bottom-placed Nakuru All-Stars on Saturday but Mang’oli feels the team was just unlucky. He, however, admits the morale within the playing unit is low.
“There are so many issues that need to be addressed in our team. Despite the challenges, I think we (players) have given our best and we’ll continue fighting hard. The Executive Office however needs to pull up it socks,” he added.
The fans’ poll, conducted by soka.co.ke, was first won by Gor Mahia midfielder Victor Ali Abondo in March while Jacob Keli, now playing for Zambian side Nkana FC, won it May.
