Vitimbi veteran Benson Wanjau, popularly known as Mzee Ojwang, succumbes to pneumonia.
Every childhood is a memory and ours was influenced by one humorous man in a signature cap and old school glasses. Mzee Ojwang Hatari wowed many with his performance as the not-so-easy-to-deal-with husband of Mama Kayai in the comedy classic Vitimbi.
Mzee Ojwang, who succumbed to pneumonia on Sunday evening at the Kenyatta National Hospital, was an old soul with a young heart. Those who grew up watching him in action know too well what it means to lose such an icon. Plus, he did teach us two of the most valuable lessons:
- Laughter is the best medicine
- Family is the most important structure in the society
You can watch Mzee Ojwang and Mama Kayai, as they try to run their restaurant with hilarious consequences on Vitimbi every Sunday at 19:30 on Maisha Magic East.
But before then, read some tributes to this Kenyan legend. We sampled a few tweets:

And now from the DStv family, hats off to this comedy legend who lit up our living rooms for decades. As we continue to celebrate him, watch him in action on Vitimbi every Sunday at 19:30 on Maisha Magic East.
