The Golden Globes recognise the talent and projects in both film and television. The awards show will also give us an idea of what we can expect this awards seasons – especially at the 2016 Academy Awards.

The 73rd Golden Globe Awards nominees list is quite impressive in both film and series. Today I’ll be sharing some predictions as to who I think will win on the night. On a side note, there has been some debate as to whether or not Jennifer Lawrence will be falling, again, on the red carpet - J-Law would hands down receive the award for Most Clumsy if ever there was one.

On to the predictions:

Motion picture, drama
The nominees are: Carol, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Revenant, Room and Spotlight.
Prediction: The two main contenders here are Mad Max: Fury Road and Spotlight, don’t you agree? Mad Max has had everyone talking and picked up a total of three nominations but I have a special place in my heart for Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams who star in Spotlight. I’d be happy with either film winning, but am leaning more towards the gritting and true-life story of Spotlight

Motion picture, comedy
The nominees are: The Big Short, Joy, The Martian, Spy and Trainwreck.
Prediction: Everyone is partial to a good Jennifer Lawrence film and with J-Law starring in Joy, I imagine it could already be in the top three contenders list. My money is on Spy or Trainwreck, which have both had quite alot of buzz throughout their release periods. The Martian, as incredible as it was visually and starring Matt Damon, just doesn’t seem like the perfect choice to win in this category when put next to the likes of Melissa McCarthy and Amy Schumer.

TV series, drama
The nominees are: Empire, Game of Thrones, Mr. Robot, Narcos and Outlander (Saturdays at 22:00 CAT on M-Net Edge).
Prediction: Personally, I would love to see Empire win. The odds are in the Lyon family's favour considering that the Golden Globes love musicals – just look at how well-received Glee was every year. However, there is some impressive competition with Game of Thrones in the mix. GoT has the right mix of drama and dragons but my money is definitely on Empire.

TV series, comedy
The nominees are: Casual, Mozart in the Jungle, Orange is the New Black, Silicon Valley, Transparent and Veep.
Prediction: Can I just say that there are a number of shows I wish were nominated. Perhaps I’m living in denial but I strongly feel a few names are missing on this list. Either way, I feel quite certain that OITNB will take this. Yes, the world is still not over the perfection of Ruby Rose.

Animated feature film
The nominees are: Anomalisa, The Good Dinosaur, Inside Out, The Peanuts Movie and Shaun the Sheep Movie.
Prediction: Disney•Pixar has two films nominated: The Good Dinosaur and Inside Out. The Good Dinosaur, as beautiful as it is visually, is just missing something in the plot when compared to the all-round animated perfection of Inside Out with an incredible A-list voice cast consisting of Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader. Inside Out is going to win, no doubts about it. The Peanuts Movie delivers a lovely nostalgic factor that may be considered but I doubt it.

There you have it. These are some of my predictions for the series and movies that are most likely to win. In just under a week, we’ll know the real winners, which will give us a great indication of what this year's awards season will be offering.
