Atlanta on FOX Life

There's a lot to be thankful for this new year. Here at DStv, we are thankful for more moments of laughter with the great comedy shows because who doesn't need a little sunshine.

If you are looking for non-stop humour, look no further than the new pop-up comedy channel M-Net Block Party (109). Here you'll find your favourite comedy hits like Bad Neighbours, Saturday at 22:30, the best comedy shows like New Girl, Mondays at 22:00 and will also feature world-class comedians like Trevor Noah and Kevin Hart.

What's there not to love about the New Year, even with more comedy shows:

1. Atlanta

Atlanta scores a lot of points just by its mere existence. Already billed as "the best show in 2016", this comedy-drama stars Donald Glover (also the show's creator) as Earn Marks, a college drop-out trying to manage his rapper cousin to the top of the food chain even though he still lives with his girlfriend. Bold, unapologetic and funny, Atlanta has a lot of quirks like casting a black actor (Austin Crute) to play Justin Bieber. Atlanta airs on Thursdays at 22:40 on the brand new channel, FOX Life (126).

2. Dr. Ken

Stand-up comedian Ken Jeong stars as Dr. Ken, the narcisstic resident doctor who's often unaware of other people's feelings even as he juggles career, marriage and family. Dr.Ken airs on Wednesdays at 21:00 on M-Net (102).

3. Baby Daddy

A man in his early 20s trying to raise his daughter with the help of his equally dysfunctional but dedicated family and friends is exactly the kind of humour you'd want to see. Baby Daddy airs weekdays at 18:30 on VUZU AMP (103).

4. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Rebecca Bunch is the kind of ex-girlfriend you would want near your current girlfriend, except she is really funny and nice so Josh Chan doesn't really mind having her around. Her craziness and non-existence love life will make you laugh out loud in every scene of the show. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend airs Saturdays at 21:00 on VUZU AMP (103).

5. The Daily Show

There's no one quite like Trevor Noah when it comes to cracking you up, from his commentary on Trump to Black Lives Matter to current events from around the globe. No topic is safe on The Daily Show but neither are your ribs so why not tune in every Friday at 22:00 on Comedy Central (122).
