We are counting down the days until the season four premiere of Downton Abbey!
Yes, our favourite British family, the Grantham’s, return to BBC Entertainment (DStv channel 120) on Sunday, 12 April at 21:00 CAT.
Now, it’s been a while since we’ve seen the drama, love and revenge take place, so here’s a recap from the last time Lady Edith, Lady Mary, Daisy and the rest of the cast of Downton Abbey made our Sunday evenings, oh so entertaining.
Lady Sybil dies
Yes, Lady Sybil was our favourite of the Grantham sisters – she took no nonsense and wasn’t afraid to take a stand for what she believed in.
Her parents may not have approved of her choice of husband, but it was clear that Tom made Sybil very happy, even if only for a brief time.
After returning to Downton, Sybil sadly died during childbirth, shattering all of those who loved her, especially her mother. And in a touching sentiment, Tom named their daughter Sybil.
Downton gets a co-owner
Downton’s finances came under scrutiny, after it was revealed that most of Countess Grantham’s money was lost, due to her husband’s poor financial decisions.
But it was Matthew, Lady Mary’s husband, who came to the rescue. He offered a large sum of money to help with the debt, but his condition was that he become a co-owner of Downton.
Matthew and Tom worked together well, and managed to turn Downton’s finances around.
Edith is left at the altar
Poor Lady Edith! She was so in love with Strallan and was ready to say her vows, when he literally left her at the altar.
She started becoming more active in political issues, especially women’s rights, and was asked to write a column in a newspaper, something her father wasn’t very supportive of. But she still travelled to London, and accepted the work as a journalist.
Bates is free
Anna and Bates’ love story got off to a rocky patch, especially after he was wrongfully committed and sentenced to prison.
But Anna stood by her husband, and found evidence which they used to clear his name. Bates is a free man again and was welcomed back to Downton, but of course, Thomas wasn’t happy about this at all.
Lady Mary’s sad Christmas
Lady Mary was so in love! Not only with being married to Matthew, but also when she discovered that she was pregnant.
The family spent their Christmas break in Scotland, counting down the days until Mary gave birth, but sadly this story, didn’t have a happy ending.
After welcoming their bundle of joy into the world, Matthew left Mary’s bedside, to share the wonderful news with the rest of his family. Unfortunately, he never made it home, as he was involved in a car crash.
To see what happens next, be sure to tune in to BBC Entertainment on Sunday, 12 April at 21:00 CAT for Downton Abbey.
