Olivia Holt plays the role of Valentina in The Evermoor Chronicles, premiere episodes air weekdays at 19:05 on Disney Channel.
In The Evermoor Chronicles, American teen and aspiring mystery writer Tara Crossley and her newly-blended family move into an old family mansion in Evermoor, a beautiful but isolated village in the middle of England.
In this interview, Olivia talks about style heroes, skin care and The Evermoor Chronicles.
How much do you love fashion, Olivia?
The older I’ve become, the more interested I’ve become in fashion. I’ve gone through my entire life not completely understanding fashion until the last few years – but the older I get, the more I love it. I think fashion is really fun.
Who is your top fashion icon?
I have a few fashion icons. In an ideal world, I would want every single one of my outfits to look like something Kate Middleton would wear. If we’re talking realistically, I really like Lucy Hale from Pretty Little Liars. I absolutely love her style! We have very similar tastes, so when I see her out in LA, I like to take ideas and try them out myself.
What do you think of the fashion in The Evermoor Chronicles?
The fashion you see in The Evermoor Chronicles is really cool. I loved the outfit I got to wear in the show. It was a separate top and skirt, but it looked like a ball gown. It was super fun to frolic around in!
How would you describe your outfit in the show?
It was a blue sparkly top with a beautiful floral blue skirt – and it was a dream. I felt like a Disney princess in it. It was literally the best thing I’ve ever worn! It was exactly what I envisioned it would be, so I fell in love with it immediately.
Why does your character wear a princess-inspired outfit?
My character is a demi-goddess, which means she’s part human and part god. When you think of demi-goddesses, you picture a princess, which is why the dress fit the theme perfectly.
How would you describe your character’s sense of style?
Valentina’s sense of style is very glamorous. It’s also very chic, very girly and very romantic. I think that’s the perfect way to describe the outfit I wear in the show, especially when you see my hair and make-up, too. When you see everything together, it’s amazing. It all fits perfectly.
When it comes to your own personal sense of style, how glamorous and girly are you?
That totally depends on what I’m doing. If I’m at a party or a red carpet event, I definitely like to get dressed up. That’s when I try to be glamorous, chic and romantic – but when I’m on my off-days, I’m much more laid back and casual. That’s when I opt for a simpler style.
How would you describe your red carpet make-up style?
I definitely like to change it up for special events, especially if I’m going to walk a red carpet. Otherwise, I like to keep it looking natural and chic. I don’t like to wear too much make-up at all when I’m not working.
What other beauty tips can you share?
It’s a good idea to eat healthily if you want to have great skin. Eat lots of healthy fruit and vegetables if you can! Now that I’m getting older, I’ve started to think about eating healthily much more. I also make sure I drink even more water.
What beauty items would we find in your purse?
I always have lots of lip balm in my purse. I can’t go anywhere without it. I also usually have some mascara with me in my purse. Those are my two go-to beauty items that I never leave home without.
How long did you spend in hair and make-up for The Evermoor Chronicles?
I spent about an hour and fifteen minutes in hair and make-up every day. I thought it would take a much longer time to get Valentina ready, but it didn’t take long at all. The hair and make-up team we had was unreal! They did everything perfect.
Olivia's fashion tips
Comfort is key
My number one fashion tip is to make sure you feel comfortable in everything you wear. That’s super important to me. In the past, I’ve gone to events in outfits that I didn’t feel comfortable wearing and it was horrible. If you don’t feel comfortable, you don’t feel good. You don’t feel as confident or as pretty in outfits like this, so don’t wear them. Comfort is key!”
Find styles that suit your body
“I was a bit of a late bloomer amongst my friends. Everything would fit my friends perfectly, but nothing would fit me and nothing looked right on me. I definitely struggled with that when I was growing up. It’s can be a challenge to find clothes that make you happy and make you feel good, so it’s important to keep searching until you find the size, fit and style that suits you. Shop around and try on different things. Find fashion pieces that suit your body and your shape. It’s all about trial and error in the changing room!”
There's no need to splash the cash
“Expensive clothes aren’t always the best clothes. In fact, I think the majority of my clothes aren’t expensive at all. I shop at thrift (second-hand) stores a lot, so half of my wardrobe isn’t new and that doesn’t bother me at all. A lot of these vintage outfits last for years and are timeless classics. They seem to be much longer lasting than regular clothes. They always stay in good shape. Hit some thrift stores and see what you can find!”
