Life always has a way of surprising one when they least expect it, and television icon John Stamos knows this better than anyone else. That’s what makes him the perfect fit for the new comedy Grandfathered, starting on M-Net on Wednesday 1 June at 19:30.
The series follows the tale of a confirmed bachelor, Jimmy Martino (played by Stamos), who happens to be a successful restaurateur, and is used to being the most suave, most handsome and most single person in the room. He’s a regular man-about-town- right up until his long-lost 25-year-old son, Gerald (played by Josh Peck, The Mindy Project) strolls into his life, with, wait for it, a baby daughter named Edie. Now the blissful bachelor must abandon his easy life of self-indulgence and get used to the idea of going straight from single to grandfather in six seconds flat.
Other complications arise after Jimmy finds out about his son, including Gerald’s watchful and protective mother (and Jimmy’s former girlfriend), Sara ( played by Paget Brewster, Community) and baby Edie’s hot mess of a mom, Vanessa (Christina Milian, Family Guy) who Gerald desperately wants to be with. Just as concerned about this fun new family drama are Jimmy’s nosy restaurant staff, assistant manager Annelise (played by Kelly Jenrette, Audrey) and chef Ravi (played by Ravi Patel, Super Fun Night).
Can Jimmy teach Gerald to be a little more like him? Will Jimmy and Sara fall for each other all over again, or will he have trouble breaking his rule of never dating a woman his own age? And the most pressing question of all is who will turn out to be higher maintenance: baby Edie or Jimmy?
Grandfathered is created and written by Daniel Chun (The Office). The series is executive-produced by Chun, Dan Fogelman (Galavant, The Neighbours) and Stamos. Chris Koch (Modern Family, Galavant) serves as director and executive producer.
