With the kids nicely settled in for the new school year, we wanted to let you know of a few shows on DStv you simply can’t miss out on.

Informative, inspirational and educational, this is a great way to get a bit of education, away from the school books – and there’s something for young and old.

They say it’s sometimes good to learn from other peoples failures and success, and on CNN’s African Voices (Saturdays at 17:30) and Inside Africa (Fridays at 19:30), we get to see how people around us have overcome their challenges and succeeded in life.

These programmes on CNN also explore African cultures and the rich heritage from around the continent. See how Africans are making strides in changing their communities.

On Discovery World, you can learn about the seas that have brought death to thousands of sailors. Watch: In Cape of Terror (Monday 18 January at 17:00), take a trip to Cape Horn, to see if man can survive the ancient life of their ancestors.

In Curiosity: I, Caveman (Tuesday 19 January at 20:20) human evolution is explored as 10 men embark on a cave experiment and in Lost Ship of Venice (Wednesday 20 January at 22:50) visit one of the world's most romantic cities, and find out how Venice was transformed into one of the world's most richest cities.

With the start of a new year, people always come up with resolutions and goals – a way to better their lives for the next 365 days. Well, if one of your resolutions was a healthier lifestyle, then you must tune in to Zee World. On Kiddies Treats (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 17:30), get tasty recipes for the kids and on Snack Attack, find out how to prepare great meals in a short time.

While on Channel ED, you can give your brain a boost, with its documentaries on history and science. Some programmes we're looking forward to on Channel ED include Edge: Science & Technology (Wednesday 20 January at 19:25), Youngpreneur (Thursday 21 January at 18:55) and Earth Beat (Friday 22 January at 16:25).

And for the kids, there’s no better way to end their school day with entertainment on Disney Junior, JimJam and Nickelodeon.

Where fun meets education, look forward to What's The Big Idea? (weekdays at 15:36 on JimJam), Handy Manny (weekdays at 12:00 on Disney Junior) and 100 Things To Do Before High School (weekdays at 17:00 on Nickelodeon).

Keep it locked to DStv and enjoy all these great programmes and more.
