Enjoy comic legends such as the Green Arrow, the Flash and Marvel's Agents of Shield this weekend on DStv.
There was a time when comic books were a preserve of the socially awkward individual, more suited to characters such as Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon Cooper and his equally nerdy friends.
But with successful film adaptations such as Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, comic books started to command genuine attention from the less hardcore comic fans.
But it was DC Comics highly acclaimed Batman film, The Dark Knight (the third highest grossing film of all time) that prompted the mainstream audience to start taking comic books (or their adaptations) seriously.
From that point it has been an intense competition between Marvel and DC Comics with the former dominating in the last couple of years, especially with its hard hitting Avengers. Still, this is a challenge that DC Comics is not taking lying down as it plans to level the playing field by unleashing its own superhero shared universe film - Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Slated for release in March 2016, DC Comics still has to sit back and watch Marvel’s domination with their upcoming franchise Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 2015) which, going by Avenger’s success, will likely break the box office record set by its prequel.
This weekend, DC Comics and Marvel share an unlikely universe on DStv where Marvel’s Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D meets DC Comics’ Arrow and The Flash.
