TV mothers are known for offering some of the strangest advices to their children. Have a look at what DStv mothers say to their children.
What’s the strangest piece of advice or pep talk your mother has ever given you? Mine once told me to pull the ears of a notorious bully at school. Well I did…let’s just say I had to change my normal school route. Mothers know best, they are always emotionally perceptive and invested in their children. At DStv we celebrate Mother’s Day by sampling some of the weirdest pep talks as heard from mothers on our various shows. They are strange, but all true.
A lot of teenagers would fret at the thought of Abby Lee Miller being their mom. She scares the daylights out of me and I’m way past my teenage years. As the host of Dance Moms, she is more like a mom to all the little girls she trains. But Abby is demanding, always coaching the young dancers like they are preparing to go to combat. Look at what she had to say to one of the stars Kendall Vertes.
"Are you crying? No tears. You save those tears for your pillow, in your room, alone. You're going to humiliate yourself in front of everyone in this dressing room. Do not cry. Suck it up, kid. You are here, you're healthy, you are one lucky little girl. Act like it."
Tough love can be so painful, right? Don’t miss Dance Moms on Mondays at 21:00 CAT on Lifetime (131).
When Cookie Lyon needs to drive some sense into you, you better listen because she won’t mince her words, even to her ‘spoilt’ son Hakeem. “You need to stop rapping like you are from the streets cuz you not about that life.”
Hakeem is a good rapper who’s overshadowed by his poser attitude and Cookie just wants her son to make good music, that’s all. Watch Empire every Wednesday at 22:00 CAT on FOX.
After Annalise made everybody squirm whenever she breathed, we never thought there was a woman out there who could take her head on. But the legend herself, Cicely Tyson proved us all wrong. That’s right; Annalise’s mother Ophelia made her debut on HTGAWM with some tough-as-nails mothering skills.
Here is what she had to say on seeing Annalise broken and brooding in bed, “And you? Now you ain't got no husband, ain't got no boyfriend and you holed up in this bed like the Queen of Sheba.”
Finally, there is Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham who’s the heart of Downton Abbey. Crawley delivers her zingers with just enough snobbery and innocence.
Violet Crawley having a nice chat with her son Robert about marriage:
Violet: "Robert, people like us are never unhappily married."
Robert: "What do we do if we are?"
Violet: "Well, in those moments, a couple is unable to see as much of each other as they would like.”
Catch Downton Abbey on Sundays at 21:00 CAT on BBC Entertainment, available to watch any time, anywhere with DStv Now and DStv Catch Up on your Explora.
So many cool mothers to choose from. Happy Mother's day from the DStv family. We celebrate you!
