Nigerian songstress Simi during Coke Studio Africa briefing

Believe it or not, Nigeria's newest sensation Simi started as a gospel artist before venturing to mainstream music. Simi is popular for her latest song Jamb Question where she features Nigerian rapper Falz yet again. Seem like her chemistry with Falz is on another level as the song Solider seems to hit the right spot for the masses as it has been on a high rotation.

We met up with her at the Stanley in Nairobi where she was attending the Coke Studio Africa press briefing together with Fally Ipupa and Sauti Sol. As she tells us, she is a fourth born and the only girl in her tight knit family growing up in Lagos, Nigeria.

Simi is in Kenya for the first time and she says she recognises the African spirit in the happiness of Kenyan people. And being part of Coke Studio Africa is one thing off her bucket list of accomplishments. She is happy to meet the other artists from all over Africa and learn from them in terms of culture and music. If she’s not globetrotting, she is in her house catching up on her favourite sitcoms like Mom.

As for The Voice Nigeria that is geared for a finale this Sunday 31 July on AfricaMagic Urban (153), Simi doesn't need to choose her favourite judge because she's rooting for all of them. Quite the loyalty there.
