Maurice Kirya and Richy Kaweesa on the set of Maisha Superstar

The first eliminations of the house are in and Uganda is the first to lose out.

Monday night Maisha Superstar was on fire! The emotions, the creativity, the judges and the always electrifying audience were buzzing. The first eliminations happened and the competition is on.

Sadly the first Maisha Superstar rookie to leave was Richy Kaweesa. The rounded talent from Uganda had been lagging behind on the StarMeter and this week was no different.

His last performance was an original piece called Without Love, which is available on wabeeh.com along with the other rookie’s performance. Isaac Luwero, a guest judge from Uganda said he was not sure he felt the emotion. Eric Wainaina in an earlier episode was quoted as saying: “People will never forget how you make them feel.” I guess Richy needed to remember that.

The theme this week was original pieces, and that is exactly what we got.

Phy who has been at the top of the leader board on the star meter entertained the audience with her song The Corny Song. With Nursery rhymes and her love in the audience, her candy pop song took us back to innocent love and made for a crowd favourite.

The inspiring Fil-lah brought back up this week with his students standing in as his background vocals. He rocked the stage with a rock ballad that impressed everyone except maybe for Kenyan musician Blinky Bill. He thought the song seemed typical of any other song you would hear on the radio in that genre.

SpiritSoul brought the fire on the stage as she sang her KuluKulu song to the delight of Chameleon, her mentor. The Ugandan songstress made the stage her own with elegance and a killer performance that secured her spot for next week.

Myra was an emotional rollercoaster as her performance saw Shaa her mentor get up on her feet and join her on stage.

Shaa got emotional in trying to understand Myra’s previous poor performance on the star meter.

Much to Shaa and Myra’s relief, she did well enough on the star meter to stay on the show and battle it out with the other contestants.

Damien Soul as usual was a crowd favorite but never enough to be at the top of the leader board. He performed with energy and a style that borrowed lightly from Femi Kuti.
