Learn how the Fight of the Century between Mayweather and Pacquiao can benefit you as a girl.
Boxing and women. There is something about a girl dancing the four corners of a boxing ring. It could be the way you just know that she’s about to take someone down. Or maybe it’s knowing that under every mean punch she packs, there is still some feminine grace. What I’m really trying to say is that boxing is also good for girls. And watching the Mayweather vs Pacquiao Fight of the Century is exactly what you need to kick-start your boxing experience (if you don’t already own a punching bag).
And while at it, pick a few things along the way:
1. How to throw an effective punch
Let’s face it; boxing comes in handy these days. There you are walking in the streets, just minding your own business, and this guy jumps you from behind. The nerve! Well, show that mugger what you are made of lady, kick box him till he shrinks into some narrow alley. ‘Yeah, you better run.’ Atta girl! With your boxing skills along with your pepper spray, you've earned yourself some street cred.
2. How to control your emotions
There are those times when hitting a wall sounds like the most reasonable thing to do, until you do - the numbing pain, followed by a stream of spontaneous curses. But did you know that boxing is the best anger management class you could ever have. It feels like freedom to channel all that anger that’s bottled up inside you into a punching bag. Just punch it all away until the weight in your chest begins to lift bit by little bit.
3. How to stay in shape
Or as I like to call it ‘Bringing the sexy back.’ Do you ever do those morning lunges that make your knees feel like they are loaded with sand? And you know you can’t skip it because you’ve been trying this new workout routine. Ahem. The kind of commitments you make to health magazines. Have you ever tried boxing for a change? The intensity of boxing makes it a good cardio work out for weight loss since it gives you a full body work-out. Shadow boxing along to Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao would make for perfect work out time. Try to keep up with their footwork as well.
4. How to foster fortitude
God knows we need fortitude to skirt the rough patches in our lives that are relationships, careers and bills. In boxing you see a lot of those moments when the opponent just keeps throwing blow after blow, and the other guy just takes it like a man, tactically planning in his head how best to retaliate. Tactical planning, sounds like something you'll need to navigate a rough relationship, yeah?
That said, there is a certain Miss Independence factor to boxing that is just so irresistible. Now you see why you need to watch MayPac in action? It's only 10 days to the big fight which will be live in HD and live streaming on SuperSport (Premium) on 3 May at 03:00. Put on your gloves and get ready to do some footworks.
