American artiste Aloe Blacc sat down with DStv soon after his arrival in Kenya to perform at the Blankets and Wine Festival on Sunday. Known for his versatile sounds that cut across genres like soul, R&B, hip hop, jazz and funk – he revealed that he will never be defined by one genre while at the same time enthused his preference for classic soul.

To get a feel of Aloe Blacc's music, tune in to Soul Sessions on Saturday from 3:00 for the best of neo-soul, R&B and classic hits, only on BET (128).

Aloe Blacc is also an actor, record producer and an acclaimed songwriter. He is behind the success of Avicii’s number one hit single Wake Me Up, which he wrote, and performed vocals in. He talks fondly of his hit singles The Man, I Need A Dollar and Love is the Answer, saying of the latter, “I wrote this song with Pharrell because I wanted to share a song with meaning with the world. That was the only message we could put across. That’s what I am trying to spread.”

He also mentioned that his Nairobi performance will make his fourth performance on the African continent, concluding, “I love the vibes of Blankets and Wine and I feel like it’s a cool place for me to perform first in Kenya, as our brands match completely.
