The truth is, we crush on Queen Latifah every day - it’s hard not to. The American singer and rapper is also one of the most talented femcees and actresses in the entertainment industry. She has made a huge contribution in the field of black entertainment.
Let’s break it down:
Queen Latifah is like a super woman; she is a singer, songwriter, rapper, actress, model, TV producer, comedian and talk show host. This seems quite exhausting but all through the years, we have seen Queen Latifah do it all effortlessly.
Despite moving away from music in the past few years, the Queen is still considered one of hip-hop's pioneer feminists having sold over two million records. Her music touches on social issues, especially those affecting black women. Her songs have covered topics like domestic violence and relationships. Her debut album, All Hail the Queen, featured the hit single Ladies First. She won a GRAMMY Award for her song U.N.I.T.Y, off her third album, Black Reign (1993).

By late 1990s, Queen Latifah had already gained mainstream success and so she started concentrating on her film career. She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 2012 film Chicago and went on to star in several films including Bringing Down the House, Taxi, Barbershop 2: Back in Business, Beauty Shop and Last Holiday among others. She received critical acclaim for her portrayal of blues singer Bessie Smith in the HBO film Bessie (2015), which she co-produced, winning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Movie. She also made an impression in her role as a bank robber in the 1996 film Set It Off.
Her talk show, The Queen Latifah Show, ran from late 2013 to early 2015 on CBS. Her work in music, TV and film has since earned her a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, among several awards and accolades.
Latifah is also an icon for black beauty and plus size women. She is also a celebrity spokesperson for CoverGirl Cosmetics, Curvation ladies underwear, Pizza Hut and Jenny Craig. She also owns perfume lines called Queen and Queen of Hearts.
