Gugu Mbatha-Raw

As we continue to celebrate International Women’s Day, this week’s Women Crush Wednesday is dedicated to the beautiful Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

The BAFTA-nominated actress, who has a South African father and English mother, has an impressive acting career to her name.

Here are just a few things you must know about our WCW.

We first took note of Gugu when she starred opposite Boris Kodjoe in the short-lived series Undercovers. This wasn’t her first acting gig though – she had a minor role in the hit TV show Doctor Who.

Gugu was also cast in Touch opposite Kiefer Sutherland, and the quirky comedy Larry Crowne, opposite Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.

Before making her way to the silver screen, Gugu acted on stage, opposite Andrew Garfield and Jude Law, in Shakespearean plays.

Gugu delivered an outstanding performance in the period drama Belle, for which she won a few awards, including a Black Reel Award and a British Independent Film Award for Best Actress.

On Thursday, you can see why we are gaga over Gugu in her supporting role in Jupiter Ascending. The sci-fi flick features an all-star cast, including Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Sean Bean and Eddie Redmayne – and you get to see it on Thursday 10 March at 19:00 only on M-Net Movies Premiere.

Gugu may have missed out on the BAFTA Rising Star Award to Jack O’Connell last year, but her Hollywood career looks bright.

Not only is she in the Will Smith movie Concussion, but she also completed filming on three other movies, opposite Jessica Chastain, Keri Russell, Matthew McConaughey and Keanu Reeves.

Gugu has also been cast in the live action Beauty and the Beast, as Plumette.

We are excited for Gugu’s Hollywood career and can’t wait to see what else she can do. Watch her on Thursday 10 March at 19:00 only on M-Net Movies Premiere in Jupiter Ascending.
