On Monday, 28 August at 02:00 in Los Angeles, the City of Angels will come alive with the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards.
MTV Base (322) is bringing us the glitz and the glam live! If you’re not an early bird, you can catch the repeat on Monday evening, at 21:30.
Before tuning in for what we know will be a fun evening, check out our favourite moments from the VMAs over the years.
At the 2016 MTV VMAs, Rihanna received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Before gracing us with her style and beauty to accept this prestigious award, Canadian rapper Drake declared his love for the Barbadian pop star on stage. But for us, the biggest highlight was Rihanna performing a selection of her greatest music hits throughout the ceremony.
Beyoncé continues to perform her hit songs at the VMAs, but our favourite Beyoncé moment was during her 2011 performance of Love On Top, when she literally dropped the mic and revealed her Blue Ivy Carter baby bump.
In 2001, Britney Jean Spears and Justin Timberlake were the hottest couple at the VMAs, and things got a lot hotter during her performance for I’m A Slave… For You. We were all afraid for her when she rocked the VMA stage, with a python wrapped around her neck!
Kanye West and Taylor Swift
Almost a decade later, and we’re still talking about the 2009 awards, when Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift. Not happy that Taylor won over Beyoncé’s Single Ladies, Ye interrupted TayTay’s acceptance speech with these words -words we still like to use: “I'm really happy for you, I'll let you finish, but…”
One of the biggest musical songs about New York, is undoubtedly Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’s Empire State of Mind. During their performance at the 2009 show, we felt the beat, that was until Lil’ Mama jumped on stage, and crashed their performance. Luckily it was at the end of the song, but we’ll always have this picture to remember that evening by.
Rap superstar Eminem knows how to deliver the hits, and when he performed at the 2000 VMAs, he had everyone inside and outside the venue on their feet. Like a scene from the Pied Piper, hundreds of Eminem lookalikes wore white T-shirts and blue jeans, and they bopped their heads as they made their way into the arena, following their leader as Slim performed The Real Slim Shady.
To see what this year’s MTV Video Music Awards will serve, be sure to set your PVR for 02:00 on Monday, 28 August, when the ceremony broadcasts live on MTV Base (322).
Or you can tune in to see host Katy Perry pull out all the stops, when MTV Base (322) re-broadcasts the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday, 28 August at 21:30.
