This past weekend, Wonder Woman broke records by bringing in more than $200 million in ticket sales.

This is historic for more than one reason. Not only is Wonder Woman the first female superhero movie we get to enjoy, but also, it was directed by Patty Jenkins, the female director who directed Charlize Theron in her Academy Award-winning role as Aileen Wuornos in Monster.

Now it may be a while before we get to see Wonder Woman on DStv, but we do have quite a few movies that are directed by women.

And if you download our DStv Now App, you can watch these movies anytime, anywhere, or just log on to DStv Catch Up, pop the corn and settle in for some of our favourites.

Selma on DStv Catch Up
Directed by Ava DuVernay, Selma tells the story of Martin Luther King Jr and the people involved in the Civil Rights Movement as they tried to march from Selma to Montgomery. The movie won an Academy Award for Best Original Song, Glory by John Legend and Common, and it features an all-star cast, including David Oyelowo as Dr King, Carmen Ejogo as Coretta Scott King, Oprah Winfrey as Annie Lee Cooper, Tessa Thompson as Diane Nash and Common as James Bevel.

You've Got Mail
Two favourites, Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, reunite for You’ve Got Mail (Thursday 15 June at 19:00 on M-Net Movies Smile and DStv Now). Nora Ephron directs the Sleepless in Seattle duo for a second time in a tale where it's not love at first sight for Joe and Kathleen, but through their business interactions, a spark is lit.

The Holiday on DStv Catch Up
Nancy Meyers has directed a few of our favourites! From The Parent Trap (starring Lindsay Lohan), What Women Want, Something's Gotta Give, It's Complicated and The Intern (Saturday 10 June at 20:42 on M-Net Movies Smile and on DStv Now) to one of our favourite Christmas movies, The Holiday. Starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black and Jude Law, The Holiday on DStv Catch Up will definitely leave you all warm and fuzzy on the inside.

Something New on DStv Catch Up
Starring Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker, Something New is a love story. Directed by Sanaa Hamri, who directed another romantic movie Just Wright starring Common and Queen Latifah. In this movie, Sanaa plays Kenya McQueen who realises that the love you’re looking for isn’t always the one you end up with.
