A Very Royal Wedding
Friday, 11 May at 20:00
A Very Royal Wedding celebrates the 70th anniversary of The Queen and Prince Philip’s marriage in November 1947. Presenter Alexander Armstrong discovers how a battered post-war Britain pulled off the wedding of the century against the odds. This feature-length documentary includes contributions from Joan Collins and Sheila Hancock, sharing their memories of the wedding, as well as revealing insights from those who were part of the big day, such as page boy Prince Michael of Kent. This was “the people’s wedding” and Alexander meets the ordinary people, who made this such a special occasion, including one of the seamstresses responsible for the spectacular wedding dress and three of the choir boys who performed at Westminster Abbey. Alexander will also recreate The Queen’s exquisite three carat diamond engagement ring, her beautiful wedding bouquet and her show-stopping wedding cake.
Countdown to the Royal Wedding
Thursday, 17 May at 20:00
Royal weddings used to be private, family occasions that took place completely outside of the public eye. But ever since Queen Victoria, the Royal Family has increasingly opened its doors to the public to share in these special days. The royal weddings from then on have marked crucial moments for Britain when the world’s perceptions of the monarchy and of the country are formed. The programme will reveal the stories behind the meticulous planning of some of the biggest events of the last century. Told by the people who have been at the heart of preparing for these momentous occasions, these stories invite us behind the scenes and give us insights into what we can look forward to from Prince Harry and Meghan’s big day.

The Royal Wives of Windsor
Thursday, 24 May and Friday, 25 May at 20:00
In this two-part documentary we examine what it’s like to be and what it takes to succeed as a Royal wife based on the lived experience of 100 years of Windsor women. We will focus on the key wives of Windsor – the Queen Mother, Wallis Simpson, the Queen, Princess Margaret, Princess Anne, Diana, Fergie, Sophie, Camilla, Kate and throw forward to Meghan. Viewers will learn how Royal-born women were often constrained in matters of the heart and how the commoners flourished and floundered under innumerable pressures.
As part of a lead-in to the Royal Season, A Right Royal Quiz, will be broadcast on Thursday, 3 May at 20:00. This is Britain’s first ever panel show about the Royal Family and a celebratory and affectionate look at the Royals and the country’s obsession with them. Competing over a series of funny and entertaining rounds testing their knowledge of Royal facts and regal moments, the teams are helped along the way by Royal expert Jennie Bond. The contestants also meet some super fans in the studio and are surprised with some royal-themed guests.
