Today is a very big day for the BeyHive… we are celebrating our Queen’s birthday!
Thirty-six years ago, Tina and Matthew Knowles welcomed their first child into the world. A daughter who would go on to enchant the world with her music. You can enjoy Beyoncé’s music on various DStv music channels and the audio bouquet.
Not only are we obsessed with every performance Beyoncé delivers (she always pulls out all the stops), but we love her red carpet style, and seeing her as a big sister to Solange and her friends including Kelly Rowland and Serena Williams (FYI: Serena welcomed her daughter into the world on Friday, 1 September).
And we’ll be the first to admit we have turned on Instagram notifications, so everytime Beyoncé posts, we are well informed. After all, we had to be among the first to see her reveal the twins, Rumi and Sir Carter.
While we rock out to Beyoncé’s music on the DStv music channels, here are some of our favourite Beyoncé moments.
In 2014, Beyoncé was named one of TIME magazine's 100 Most Influential People. Shery Sandberg said about the star: "She raises her voice both on- and off-stage to urge women to be independent and lead."
in July 2016, Beyoncé showed that she was a truly supportive friend when she and Jay-Z went to watch Serena Williams at Wimbledon. Later on the same day, Beyoncé flew to Ireland to perform at Croke Park as part of The Formation World Tour. Talk about commitment!
In February 2016, hot on the heels of the release of her single "Formation", Beyoncé gave a powerful performance during the Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show which included dancers in costumes inspired by the Black Panther Movement, seamlessly blending pop music with activism.
For years we held on to Destiny Child's every move, so it warmed our hearts to see all three ladies back together in the video for Michelle Williams' 2014 single, "Say Yes".
In April this year, a picture of Beyoncé ordering off a menu at a restaurant went viral on Twitter. Fans took the moment as an opportunity to imagine themselves as part of Bey's life.
Beyoncé and her younger sister Solange gave us a priceless sister moment when they danced together on stage at Coachella 2014.
In April 2016, Beyoncé changed the game when she released the instantly iconic visual album Lemonade.
During her performance at the 2017 Grammy Awards, Beyoncé featured her mother Tina and her daughter Blue Ivy - they all wore stunning gold outfits.
Since the early 2000s, Beyoncé has participated in several relief efforts and charity organisations, setting up The Survivor Foundation in partnership with her parents, her sister Solange and Kelly Rowland; partnering with Goodwill on their job readiness programme; as well as starting the BeyGood Foundation.
In another stunning viral social media moment, Beyoncé officially announced the arrival of her twins Sir and Rumi a month after their birth with a beautiful Instagram post which proved that Beyoncé is one of the most stylish moms around.
