Two critically-acclaimed series will return on M-Net Edge next week: The final season of the psychological horror Penny Dreadful returns on Monday 11 July at 22:00, while the Golden Globe Award-winning Mr. Robot starts Express from the US on Friday 15 July at 03:00 and in Prime Time on Thursday 21 July at 21:00.
Penny Dreadful returns with nine episodes, confronting new horrors in dangerous new lands, Ethan Chandler, Dr Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, Sir Malcolm, the Creature, and the ravishing but deadly Lily must each face and embrace –their own most truly monstrous selves. But for Vanessa Ives, accepting her demons could exact a terrible cost and plunge the world into unending darkness.
Guest stars in the new season include Patti LuPone, as a mysterious character from Vanessa’s past and Simon Russell Beale, who returns as the eccentric Egyptologist Ferdinand Lyle.
The series features Josh Hartnett as Ethan Chandler, Timothy Dalton as Sir Malcolm Murray, Eva Green as Vanessa Ives, Reeve Carney as Dorian Gray, Rory Kinnear as The Creature/Caliban, Billie Piper as Brona Croft, Danny Sapani as Sembene and Harry Treadaway as Dr Victor Frankenstein.
Penny Dreadful is created, written and executive produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan (The Aviator, Gladiator), alongside Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) and Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road, Call the Midwife).
Considered as one of the top new thrillers of 2015 in the USA, Mr. Robot has also nabbed Golden Globe Awards for Best Drama and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Christian Slater). Lead actor Rami Malek was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance on the show, and was rumored to have given some veteran TV actors some serious competition.
A reclusive, seemingly ordinary programming prodigy and vigilante hacker named Elliot is sucked into a cyber-conspiracy, when the leader of an underground organisation, calling themselves fsociety, recruits him to destroy the very corporation he was getting paid to secure. Compelled by his personal beliefs, Elliot struggles to resist the chance to take down the multinational CEOs that he believes are running (and ruining) the world, but with lingering family issues, troubling mental health concerns and the various agendas of everyone involved, the delicate balance between reality and illusion quickly become blurred.
Season 2 finds Elliot secluded from the world, and demanding more answers from the mysterious Mr. Robot, while fsociety deliver yet another malicious payload. The cast includes: Rami Malek as Elliot Alderson, Christian Slater as the Leader of fsociety, Portia Doubleday as Angela, Carly Chaikin as Darlene, Martin Wallström as Tyrell Wellick and Grace Gummer as Dominique (Dom) DiPierro.
Note that the first and last episodes of Mr. Robot Season 2 have been scheduled as two-hour long episodes, which then means that the additional repeat of Ray Donovan will fall away on these days (15 July and 16 September).
From psychological horrors to psychological thrillers, let your imagination loose with these mind-bending dramas on M-Net Edge.
