Rihanna and Jim Parsons on the red carpet for Home

Have you ever watched an animated movie or cartoon and thought that you recognised a particular voice?

Well that was our thoughts when we watched Home. It took a while to place Oh’s voice but we soon realised that he is the delightful Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, and Rihanna plays Tip!

This made us wonder which of our favourite actors and actresses voice some of the most loveable, or not so loveable, animated characters.

We've compiled a list of some of our favourite stars and the movies or cartoons they lend their voices to – make sure to stay connected to DStv this June to enjoy all these great and entertaining titles.

Now that we know Jim and Rihanna voice the main characters in Home, tune in to M-Net Movies Family on Saturday 11 June at 17:25 and watch the charming movie.

Did you know that Modern Family’s Alex is Princess Sofia? Yes, Ariel Winter voices this beloved character in Sofia the First (watch it weekdays at 19:30 on Disney Junior). Other favourites on Sofia the First include Grey’s Anatomy’s Sara Ramirez (Dr. Callie Torres) as Queen Miranda and Wayne Brady (from Whose Line Is It Anyway) as Clover.

Do you remember Dr Richard Webber’s wife in Grey’s Anatomy, also known as CeCe, who blackmails Mary Jane in Being Mary Jane (Sundays at 20:00 on BET)? Well Loretta Devine, who played Adele Webber in the Shonda Rhimes series, is Hallie in Doc McStuffins (weekday mornings at 10:50 on Disney Junior)!

We’ve come to know Amanda Leighton as the bubbly student Emma on The Fosters and now she voices Blossom in The Powerpuff Girls (Saturdays at 09:55 on Cartoon Network).

Mark Hamill’s most famous character may be Luke Skywalker from the Star Wars franchise but on weekdays, he is just regular Skips on Regular Show (weekdays at 17:40 on Cartoon Network, and also available on DStv Catch Up).

Olivia Munn is one of our favourite comedians, having started out on The Daily Show (Tuesdays to Fridays at 21:00 on Comedy Central) and then showing that she can be serious as Sloan in The Newsroom. As Phoebe in Miles From Tomorrow (weekdays at 17:05 on Disney Junior), we fall more and more in love with Olivia every single time.

Who remembers The Rock’s daughter in The Game Plan? While Madison Pettis is all grown up and has a starring role in The Fosters, she’s still a child at heart as Izzy in Jake and the Neverland Pirates (weeknights at 20:00 on Disney Junior).

You may know her as Hannah Montana but Miley Cyrus is really good as Penny in Bolt! Watch this on Saturday 18 June at 18:00 on M-Net Movies Stars.

Our favourite ogre and the great love of his life return to DStv on Monday 20 June. Be sure to tune in for Shrek 2 at 19:00 on M-Net Movies Family and enjoy the colourful voices of Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona and Eddie Murphy as Donkey.

Kevin Spacey steps out of the White House and into A Bug’s Life. Hear him and Hayden Panettiere of Nashville fame on Tuesday, 7 June at 18:23 on M-Net Movies Showcase.

We may all be obsessed with Steve Carrell in Despicable Me but did you know Russell Brand voices Dr. Nefario? Watch it on Thursday 9 June at 17:25 on M-Net Movies Family.

Tune in for great laughs and a stinging time and hear Chris Rock and Oprah (yes! Oprah Winfrey!) in Bee Movie on Tuesday 21 June at 18:00 on M-Net Movies Stars.

Big Hero 6 is one of the best animated movies of the past few years. Watch it on Tuesday 14 June at 18:23 on M-Net Movies Showcase and see if you can recognise the following voices: Damon Wayans Jr. as Wasabi and Katie Lowes (Quinn on The Fixer) as Abigail.

Stay connected to DStv and enjoy all these great movies, cartoons and so much more.
