TLC in association with Colgate Optic White has announced Carissa Cupido as the 12th semi-finalist making it through to the next stage of the TLC Next Great Presenter search. This radio presenter from Sea Point, Cape Town secured her spot in the “Lucky 13” from more than 1 500 auditions received from across the continent.
“It took a while for reality to sink in! To be chosen as one of 13 from the entire continent is an incredible feeling and a proud moment for me,” says Carissa. “One day while browsing the Internet, I came across the call for auditions to be TLC’s Next Great Presenter. I got butterflies just thinking about the possibility of being associated with a brand that I grew up with – I just couldn’t pass up on the chance to become a TLC presenter,” she continued.
This passionate entertainer describes herself as spirited, driven and cheesy. “I honestly think that every experience prepares you for something greater. I have auditioned for shows before and would get close enough to taste success but at the time it wasn’t right for me. What I’ve learned from those moments, and also from my four years on campus radio and now a year at Good Hope FM, is how to talk to and relate to an audience that you can’t see,” says Carissa.
Now, all roads lead to Cape Town for Boot Camp, as Carissa along with 12 contestants from all over Africa aim to turn their 90-second video audition into their dream job. During the four-day Boot Camp, they will be put through their presenting paces by the judges and industry experts as they undertake screen tests, performance coaching, fashion styling, as well as brand and media training to see who really has what it takes to be a host on Africa’s #1 lifestyle and entertainment channel.
“I am by no means an expert; I always position myself as a student of the industry. There is so much more to learn which excites me. I like being pushed, as uncomfortable as it makes me, it’s so necessary for growth,” explains Carissa.
While all chosen constants believe they have what it takes to be the TLC’s Next Great Presenter, it will be down to the star-studded line-up of expert judges to choose the Top 3 finalists at Boot Camp, which includes; radio and TV personality Thando Thabethe, Head of Content at MultiChoice Aletta Alberts, editor of ZAlebs.com Zee Dladla, celebrity publicist and communications strategist Jarred Doyle, and VP of Channels for Discovery Networks CEEMEA Lee Hobbs.
Then, in the end it will be up to the TLC audience to decide who should be crowned the winner and travel to London to film the brand new series, TLC’s Most Extreme coming to TLC Entertainment (135) in 2017. The winner will also feature in a special once off documentary and win a luxury holiday for two courtesy of Sun International.
To find out who makes it through to the Top 3, don’t miss the reveal on the TLC Next Great Presenter website on Thursday, 22 September.
