Two time Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award winner, O.C. Ukeje rose into prominence when he won the Amstel Malta Box Office (AMBO) reality show. His prize was a role in Izu Ojukwu’s White Waters where he starred alongside Nollywood heavyweights such as Rita Dominic and Joke Silva. So good was his performance that he won the award for the Most Promising Actor at the 4th Africa Movie Academy Awards.
Ukeje then went on to star in several movies, television and stage productions. Since winning his first AMVCA award in 2013 for his role in Two Brides and A Baby, he has gone on to feature in major international productions Half of A Yellow Sun, Black November and Gone Too Far. In 2015, he teamed up with South African director Sara Blecher where he starred in Ayanda which premiered at the LA Film Festival and was the opening film at this year’s Durban International Film Festival. Ayanda is set to screen in the US through Ava DuVernay’s distribution company.
Behind the scenes, Ukeje who is also a model and musician tied the knot with his sweetheart Ibukun Togonu Bickerseth at a star studded ceremony in 2014. His best friend Kemi Lala Akindoju was his best man and donned a suit like all the other groom’s men. Since getting married, the couple has been sighted together at several events.
