M.I. FT. DJINEE

The son of a Pastor, M.I’s first taste of Hip-Hop was through sampling the works of DMX and Lauryn Hill. In 1999 the proficient producer, lyricist, songwriter and instrumentalist left Nigeria for Calvin College, Michigan, USA to pursue a degree in business and economics. There he interacted with the budding Michigan Hip-Hop community. He performed at all the major Hip-Hop and R&B shows and later came third in the Calvin College “Hip Hopera” 2003. M.I returned to Plateau, Nigeria in 2005 to find the local music industry on the verge of a revolution and was set to take African Hip-Hop to new heights. MI set up Rhytchus Era Productions with his brother Jesse Jagz Jesse Abaga and started to develop budding artists in the local scene in Jos-Lindsey, Ruby, Ice Prince, Eve-were all part of his musical crew named Loopy Records. In 2006 he was signed on to Chocolate City Music and released the tune “Crowd Mentality” which went on to win Best Rap Single at the Hip Hop World Awards in 2008. His debut offering titled Talk About It –released in December 2008- which he produced alongside his brother Jesse Jagz paved the way for (then unknown) artists like Wizkid, YQ, Pype and  Lindsey.
