Oskido is one of the most infliuential forces in the South African music business. His creative instincts led to the genese of the most definitive waves for the industry. Having played a central role in switching the tempo in bring such iconic acts as Boom Shaka, Bongo Maffin, Brothers of Piece, Mafikizolo and so many more to the centre of the stage, there's no lack of evidence that the genius shaping what has become lives.
In our recent exclusive interview with Oskido, he distilled his journey into the music business. Splaying recollections of how it all started, and continues to grow, Oskido tells us how a tight group of talented youngins were already responding to a bigger energy, a watershed moment which influenced his own outlook on the sounds at the time.
Them “kids” include Black Motion, DJ Maphorisa, Heavy K and more. They’ve since become some of the biggest names on the scene.
A strong work ethic informs why Oskido has been able to sustain a relevance that spans decades.
He works and it keeps him on the ground, where he’s got a tight grip on the pulse of the culture. “I eat and breath music 24 hours a day”, he says.
“I remember coming from Brazil, then I go to play in Sandton. That same night, you will find me playing in Diepsloot. It’s keeping relevant and… understanding what’s happening.”
