AKA is one of South Africa’s most recognisable names in hip hop.
With a drive to reach the apex of the country’s music industry, the rapper challenged the landscape of hip hop with a pan-african approach showcasing the best in local and continental talents. From Ghanaian beats, Nigerian fashion flair and South African music and pop culture references, AKA was a force in local and international music.
Today marks a year since his tragic passing on 10 February 2023 at age 35. We commemorate the iconic muso that he was – bringing originality and a South African sound that set him apart from the rest. Holding an unwavering belief in himself, backed by talent and a dedication to impeccable performance, he has left a nation inspired.
