Teyana Taylor recently shocked fans after announcing her plans to retire. At just 29 years, the R&B singer, who's often touted as the next megastar, has confirmed that she really intends to move on to other things. Teyana shared a video on her Instagram to explain a viral post, in which she first dropped the bombshell of early retirement.

It all started when she shared a post showcasing the performance of her catalogue on a certain streaming platform.

While she thanked fans and celebrated her achievements for 2020, Teyana also shared that she's been feeling "underappreciated" by the music industry and her record label.

"I ain'y gone front in times of feeling under appreciated as a artist, recieving little to no real push from the "machine", constantly getting the short end of the stick, being overlooked... I'm retiring this chapter of my story with the comfort that I can depart with peace of mind seeing the hard work and passion..." (sic)

Fans started deciphering what she meant by "retiring this chapter of my story", which could have meant pretty much anything. Maybe she's just switching labels? Changing her sound and look?

No, she's actually retiring. Until further notice.

Taking to Instagram, Teyana shared an emotional video, in which she explains that she can no longer continue giving "130%" while receiving little support from her label.

In the follow-up video, she explained that she's not a quitter, but has to do this for her mental health.
