Get ready for an unfiltered dive into the heart of Mzansi’s music scene with Afrotainment: Sgubhu Sase Dubane a new 3-part documentary series diving deep into DJ Tira’s journey from the rural hills of KwaHlabisa to the global stage.

The series reveals the highs, lows and untold truths behind the Afrotainment empire, a brand that transformed the South African music scene and launched careers in genres like Kwaito, Gqom and House.

From a 15-year-old dreamer in rural KwaZulu-Natal to the mastermind behind Afrotainment, DJ Tira’s rise was anything but easy. As the series unfolds, viewers will see his rise and that of iconic Afrotainment stars like Tipcee, Zodwa Wabantu and Dladla Mshunqisi as well as the dramatic behind-the-scenes stories that came with their accomplishments.

Afrotainment has been a powerhouse in shaping the Mzansi music scene, racking up a slew of awards and nominations including Big Nuz’s Umlilo featuring Tira which earned a nod for SAMA's Song of the Year, while Teargas’ Party 101, featuring Tira was nominated for both Channel O's Video of the Year and SAMA's Song of the Year in 2010.

Fast forward to 2019 and 2020, Tira earned nominations for SAMA Record of the Year in the Best Kwaito/Gqom/Amapiano category, clinched the Special Achievement Award at the inaugural KZN Entertainment Awards and in 2023 won Best Kwaito/Gqom Song at the Metro FM Music Awards for the smash hit Sikilidi.
