Day 46: Things are bleak – BBTitans

News
02 March 2023
Week seven has been something of a low point for the housemates, and they’re letting it show.
A sign stating "dead end", overgrown with foliage.

Well, we hate to say it, but we did call it. Exactly one week ago, we wrote about the possibility that things were going to get a bit hectic in the house seeing as how we’re halfway through the season, but only one third of housemates have been evicted. This means that the next few weeks are likely to bring massive evictions and stress.

We didn’t think it would get this bad, this fast, though. The mood in the house is decidedly bleak, and it’s taking its toll on the housemates in assorted ways. The first to succumb to this was probably Tsatsii, whose indiscretions on Monday led to the Royals not only losing their Save and Replace powers as Heads of House, but being put up for nomination, too. Obviously, that’s put a bit of a damper on their week, and she’s feeling guilty for putting Ebubu at risk.

Her anxiety isn’t getting any better. On Wednesday, the housemates received another task from Big Brother, although this one was designed to reduce stress: the housemates had to come up with methods of relaxation and self-care, and receive a facial, pedicure, or manicure. Sounds good, right? Sure, if you didn’t have a wager task to perfect by the next day.

Right after the brief was read out, Tsatsii expressed her growing concern at the dwindling opportunity to get their presentation up to speed. She has a point. We’ve not seen nearly as much preparation go into this week’s task as there has been before. With Ipeleng, Nana, and Blue Aiva feeling under the weather, squeezing in the hours of preparation needed to get their presentation up to scratch is looking less likely with every tick of the clock.

Tsatsii isn’t the only Head of House feeling the pinch. Ebubu opened up to Olivia about the troubles he’s experiencing as HoH this time round, and it’s easy to see that it’s getting to him. He’s putting up a very valiant effort not to make Tsatsii feel bad for getting them on the nomination block, it must be said, but he’s certainly not been his usual chipper self.

Speaking of Olivia, she’s another source of misery. She’s not taking well to her position as Tail of House and the punishment that comes with it: four massages for the other housemates per day. She was complaining to her fellow Tail, Juicy Jay, and it seems as though her lack of enthusiasm is getting to him. He’s been tackling the punishment with aplomb and good humour, and Olivia’s negativity is grating his nerves. He’s expressed concern that she will get them further into trouble.

Of course, the fact that the Tails need to dish out a total of eight massages to different housemates also gets in the way of preparing for the wager task: if someone is receiving a massage, they aren’t working on their presentation. See how this situation just makes itself worse?

Then there’s Khosicle, who just cannot seem to go five minutes without arguing about something, saying something mean, or crying. It’s all getting a bit much for them, and their bickering is contributing to the general feeling of discontent.

Then, just to make things a little more unpleasant, we have the Thabang / Nelisa situation. Nelisa is certainly more than just a little bit interested in him, and she’s certainly been trying to get their relationship out of the friendzone, but he seems uninterested in cooperating. Let’s be clear, here: neither of them is being unkind, but the awkwardness has real potential to turn into unpleasantness, and there’s more than enough of that going around, already.

So, here we are: low, unhappy, stressed, guilt-ridden housemates who are not at full strength, behind on sleep, and underprepared for the coming wager task. Of course, there is a chance that they could get it together and win the wager, which would go a long way to reducing the stress. Also, wager presentations are followed by a pool party and a few days with no tasks to complete, so it could all be about to get very positive.

However, if they fail their presentation – this is going to get uglier than it already is.
