The housemates release a little pressure – BBTitans

News
28 February 2023
Pressure is part of the Big Brother game – we spoke to the housemates to find out which techniques they use to get through high stress situations. Some of these ideas are pretty solid.
A smokestack.

JUICY JAY

“I cool myself off mentally, reset my thinking to go back to step one, remind myself that I can, and I will. Sometimes, I distract myself by laughing or just doing funny things.”

While there is nothing about Juicy Jay’s methods that strike us as flawed, we must really agree with that last note about doing funny things. If you need a pick-me-up, go online and find blooper reels from your favourite movie or TV show. It works a charm.

IPELENG

“Drink hot water; I focus on not getting burned and forget I am under pressure.”

Okay, that’s a new one for us, but we can see the logic: give yourself something important but simple on which to focus and conquer that. Hmm, we might give it a try.

JUSTIN

“I'm naturally calm.”

Normally, we would tackle this response by being a bit snarky about its lack of useful tips, but when it comes to Justin, we can’t. He really is just naturally calm.

NELISA

“Breathing techniques and counting to ten; if that doesn't work, I sing a really bad pop song.”

Breathing techniques are a standard method to reduce anxiety (just see the other answers for proof) but singing a bad pop song is a new one. Maybe it’s similar to Juicy Jay’s method of doing something silly.

YEMI CREGX

“Take a breather, take a walk, listen to music, talk to myself, or say affirmative words to myself.”

Yemi Cregx has a few methods and all of them make sense. You can even do every single one of those things all at the same time, which should save you time and give you more opportunity to solve whatever is bothering you.

BLAQBOI

“I isolate myself.”

Hmmm, tricky one, this. Taking time to yourself can be useful when you need to compose your thoughts, but extended isolation is no kind of good thing. And not for nothing, but isolating yourself when stuck in the Big Brother house with a bunch of other people is easier said than done.

KHOSI

“Breathing exercises.”

Nothing much to say here. Breathing is good. Vital, in fact.

YVONNE

“I pace around or count from 1 – 100 in my head.”

Once again, you can do both of these at once.

OLIVIA

“By taking a deep breath and reminding myself it’s not worth it.”

What if it is, though? 🤔

TSATSII

“By calming down and taking deep breaths.”

Yes, it’s how you calm down that has us intrigued. Guess it’s a secret.

BLUE AIVA

“Breathe in and out multiple times. Say a little prayer, and tell yourself you’re going to pull this off, you got this, repeat all the words.”

Okay, breathing “in and out multiple times” is just breathing. Which is, at least, good advice, we cannot argue with that.

KANAGA JNR

“Taking a moment to myself.”

And then things just get magically resolved? We think you’re leaving something out, here.

NANA

“The steps I take to remain calm under pressure are to get myself distracted by gisting with my close pals, listening to music, and most importantly, I will pray about the situation.”

Yeah, surrounding yourself with good company is a proven technique.

THABANG

“Remember, logic is your best friend; breathe and understand that all you can do is your best, so your best is enough. Then act.”

This is pretty clinical, but we can’t fault it. Resolving to take action and then actually taking action is not an easy way to get things done, but it does have one thing going for it: it actually works.

EBUBU

“Deep breaths.”

Oh, deep breaths. We didn’t realise.

MIRACLE OP

“Breathing and thinking positive thoughts.”

Again with the breathing. Yes, staying alive is an important first step to dealing with a problem. 😉
