Akwaaba Magic is thrilled to announce the upcoming premiere of Masaase, a compelling new drama series that delves into the heart of 17th-century Ghana.
Set in a small, powerful kingdom, the series is a gripping narrative of a high-stakes struggle for control over wealth and destiny. Following the success of Queen of Akra, Asi, and Nana Akoto, this series will leave viewers in awe.
"Masaase" introduces us to a world where power is everything. The story centers on the ruthless and ambitious Akosua, the king’s third wife, who commands immense power as the overseer of his vast cocoa and palm plantations. Her authority is absolute, extending to the many enslaved people who work her land.
Shot in the picturesque hills of Tinkon at the purpose-built set, Director Kwabena Gyansah (who also directed ‘Nana Akoto’) outdid himself, assembling a cast and crew worthy of this epic series. He adds, “we tested the cast to their limits first with the story, then the language and finally getting them to unlearn and relearn everything they knew about acting in a time series. I must say this was a first for me, too.”
Produced with the high-quality storytelling that Akwaaba Magic is known for, "MASAASE" features a stellar cast of both veteran and rising Ghanaian actors, including Nikki Samonas, David Mensah, Adomaa, Ama Oduma Odoom, and Gideon Boakye. Their performances bring to life a world filled with complex characters, each with their own motivations and secrets. The series is meticulously crafted, showcasing stunning cinematography and a gripping narrative that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
The plot intensifies with the arrival of a young slave girl who discovers that a newly found, gold-rich land rightfully belongs to her murdered father. The series chronicles their dramatic battle for control, a tension-filled clash between a powerful, established force and a young girl fighting for her stolen legacy. Viewers can expect a rich, authentic portrayal of a historical period, filled with emotional depth and thrilling suspense.
"MASAASE" premieres on 14 October 2025 at 8 p.m. exclusively on Akwaaba Magic (DStv Channel 150 and GOtv Channel 102). After it airs, viewers can also stream the series on Showmax.
