January on Akwaaba

It's the start of a new year, and Akwaaba Magic (DStv channel 150 and GOtv Channel 102) has started the year very strongly with the launch of three shows on the channel (La Manor, Market Queens Season 2, and Bloodline).

The shows, which launched on January 5th, 6th, and 7th, respectively, have already generated strong interest.

La Manor, the first thriller on Akwaaba Magic, features some of the notable names in the Ghanaian film industry, including Jasmine Baroudi, Harold Amenyah, and others.

Exploring themes such as class divides, deception, and emotional suppression, La Manor is ultimately a love story. A working-class carpenter marries into wealth, determined to prove love can cross class lines.

But when conflicts in the marriage awaken a meticulously defined ancestral curse activated by suppressed emotions and disturbed relics, he must solve a ghost’s mystery to save his marriage. Along the line, he discovers that the true horror lies in the living deception he is entangled in.

Season 1 was hilarious, perfectly showing what happens in our various markets, and Season 2 of Market Queens promises even more laughs but also drama.

This season, the story revolves around a proposed market redevelopment and a scandal-ridden cooperative fund that threatens to tear the Tesano Market apart. As rival factions fight for power, and long-buried secrets surface, the women of the market must choose between survival and justice.

Market Queens Season 2 features some returning faces, including Selassie Ibrahim, Faustina Paintsil, popularly known as Akyere Bruwaa, Roseline Ngissah, Irene Opare, and Victoria Lebene, along with some new faces.

The third show, Bloodine, is a Kumawood production that tackles infertility, family ties, and more. Two young people fall in love but find out that their love may be impossible because of their bloodlines. Produced by Matilda Asare, the show promises drama and more.

Head of Akwaaba Magic, Nosisa Doe said, "We remain committed to telling authentic Ghanaian stories, ones our viewers can find themselves in.

We knew heading into 2026 that we needed to start on a very strong note, to set the tone for how the year would go.  La Manor is our first thriller in Ga, and I am so excited about how the production has turned out. The quality of pictures and acting tells it all, and we know audiences will love it.

Market Queens is also another great show, and we are happy it has returned for Season 2. We’re always happy when we get stories from Kumawood because they give us good numbers, and we know Bloodline will also go the same way as the storyline is relatable.

“This year, our goal is to step up our game. We're gearing up to bring our viewers top-notch content they will love. We're exploring diverse stories that will cater to everyone, and I urge viewers to stay glued to Akwaaba Magic.”

Head of Marketing at MultiChoice Ghana, Afua Kissi-Ashong, also shared her excitement about the shows. "It's always a pleasure to serve our customers with content they love, and we are sure that La Manor, Bloodline, and Season 2 of Market Queens will move the dial for us.

We've already got great feedback, and we will build on that to push even more great local content."

La Manor airs on Mondays at 8:30PM, Market Queens S2 on Tuesdays at 8:30PM, while Bloodline shows on Wednesdays and Thursdays also on the 8:30PM slot.
